Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Tangent, Inc. ("Tangent," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, stores, and discloses information when you use our website at heytangent.com and our software services (collectively, the "Service"). Please read this policy carefully. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Who We Are

Tangent is a software company that helps businesses automatically generate and update go-to-market content — including website copy, sales materials, documentation, and enablement assets — by connecting to a company's internal tools and knowledge sources. Our registered business address is:

Tangent, Inc.
7401 Inspiration Drive
Austin, Texas, United States
Email: privacy@heytangent.com

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

When you sign up, request access to our pilot program, or contact us, we may collect:

  • Name and job title
  • Work email address
  • Company name
  • Information you include in forms, messages, or communications with us

2.2 Information We Collect Automatically

When you visit our website or use the Service, we may automatically collect:

  • IP address and general location data
  • Browser type and version
  • Pages visited and time spent on those pages
  • Referring URLs
  • Device type and operating system
  • Cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Section 7)

2.3 Integration Data

When you connect third-party tools to Tangent (such as code repositories, project management systems, document storage platforms, or communication tools), we access data from those integrations solely to provide the Service. This may include:

  • Code diffs, commit messages, and pull request descriptions
  • Ticket titles, descriptions, and status updates
  • Documents, pages, and files you explicitly authorize us to read
  • Messages or posts in channels you designate for Tangent to monitor

We do not access integration data beyond what is necessary to generate the content outputs you have requested. We do not read private messages, personal communications, or data outside the scope of the permissions you grant.

2.4 Content You Create or Upload

We collect the inputs you provide to Tangent to generate content — including style guides, brand guidelines, example content, and written instructions — and the content drafts Tangent produces on your behalf.

2.5 Usage Data

We collect information about how you interact with the Service, including features used, actions taken, content generated, and settings configured.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and improve the Service
  • Generate content drafts and updates based on your connected data sources
  • Respond to your inquiries and provide customer support
  • Send you product updates, notices, and operational communications related to your account
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve product features and user experience
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents
  • Comply with applicable laws and legal obligations
  • Enforce our Terms of Service

We do not sell your data or your integration data to third parties. We do not use your company's proprietary data to train AI models that are shared with or benefit other customers or third parties without your explicit consent.

4. Legal Basis for Processing (EEA, UK, and Switzerland)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your personal data on the following legal bases:

  • Contract performance: Processing necessary to provide the Service under our agreement with you
  • Legitimate interests: Processing for our legitimate business interests, such as improving the Service, preventing fraud, and communicating about the Service, where those interests are not overridden by your rights
  • Legal obligation: Processing required to comply with applicable law
  • Consent: Where we have asked for and received your consent, such as for certain marketing communications

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell personal information. We may share your information in the following limited circumstances:

5.1 Service Providers

We work with third-party vendors who help us operate the Service, including cloud hosting providers, AI model providers, email delivery services, and analytics tools. These providers are contractually bound to use your information only as directed by us and in accordance with this policy.

5.2 AI Model Providers

To generate content, Tangent uses large language model APIs provided by third parties. Data you provide may be transmitted to these providers as part of generating outputs. We select providers with appropriate data protection commitments and, where possible, configure API calls to opt out of training data use. Specific providers in use will be disclosed upon request.

5.3 Business Transfers

If Tangent is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of business assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or prominent notice on our website before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

5.4 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Tangent, our users, or the public.

5.5 With Your Consent

We may share your information with third parties when you have explicitly consented to such sharing.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. We retain integration data only for the period necessary to generate and store content outputs. When you disconnect an integration, we delete or de-identify the underlying source data within 30 days unless a longer retention period is required by law.

When you close your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 60 days, except where we are required by law to retain certain records or where data has been included in backups that will be purged on a rolling schedule.

7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies on our website to:

  • Keep you signed in to your account
  • Remember your preferences
  • Understand how visitors use our website
  • Improve the performance and functionality of the Service

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect certain features of the Service. We do not currently respond to Do Not Track signals, but we will update this policy if our practices change.

8. Data Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, destruction, or alteration. These include encrypted data transmission (TLS), access controls, and regular security reviews.

No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. While we work hard to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

9. International Data Transfers

Tangent is headquartered in the United States. If you are located outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. Where required by law, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border data transfers, including Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.

10. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correction: Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Deletion: Request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain legal exceptions
  • Portability: Request that we provide your data in a portable, machine-readable format
  • Restriction: Request that we restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances
  • Objection: Object to processing of your data based on legitimate interests
  • Withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent, withdraw that consent at any time

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at privacy@heytangent.com. We will respond to verifiable requests within 30 days or as required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose; the right to delete your personal information; the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell personal information); and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights. To submit a request, contact us at privacy@heytangent.com.

11. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 16, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us at privacy@heytangent.com.

12. Third-Party Links and Services

Our website or Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third-party services. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you access through Tangent.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email (if we have your email address) or by posting a prominent notice on our website at least 14 days before the changes take effect. The updated policy will include a revised "Last Updated" date at the top.

Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
